Artist Statement
I am drawn to places where land meets water—where the air feels softer, the light shifts quietly, and time seems to slow. Much of my work is inspired by the Southern Gulf Islands of British Columbia, where the ocean and shoreline offer a sense of peace. If I’m not painting scenes of the coast, I am certainly thinking of the way I feel when I am there and translating that to the canvas.
Working in acrylic paint & soft pastel, I focus on capturing atmosphere, texture, and light, often emphasizing the emotional quality of a place/thing over the detail. I work to capture not what I see, but what I feel in a place—maybe stillness, maybe movement, and most likely the dramatic shifts in colour and light.
My intention is not only to depict the landscape or topic, but to hold onto a feeling—translating places into emotional experiences and a deeper connection to the natural world. Escape with me.
